An ambassador of feminine beauty, peace, love and optimism. The first Indian to the Miss Universe pageant held in Manila to win, Philippines 1994 was born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. After she finished her two and she participated in the Femina Miss India contest and from then on there was no turning back. This 172.5cm long, girl next-door face shot to fame when she became the Femina Miss India in 1994.
Its main assets of an intelligent mind, balance and linguistic competence finally won her the coveted Miss Universe crown. Eighteen year old Sushmita Sen, the youngest of the 76 participants attracted one million viewers and the judges with her amazing mental acumen.
Sushmita made her debut in Dastak in the role of a vulnerable girl being stalked by a psycho (Sharad Kapoor). The film was a dud at the box office. Soon another flop followed Zor. Things were not going for Sush. Sushmita has a comic role in David Dhawan's Biwi No.1 and caught movie buff attention. She had a flair for comedy. They also did a romantic role opposite Abhishek Bachchan in Bus Itna Sa Khwab Hai. Unfortunately, this film bombed at the box office. Recently she starred in a very realistic role in Meghna Gulzar's the directorial debut Filhaal. She has a very rave reviews for convincing portrayal of her character in the film.
Sushmita is intelligent, but it's an intelligence as yet untainted by realism. Before this happened, here was a gossamer world, tipped between the cradle and the crown. Creative rather than literal, poetic rather than pedantic, it is precisely these qualities that she holds dear to the viewers and the judges.
She has led a rather normal filmi existence and has its fair share of carping critics, her erratic lifestyle, her time in her life in ways relationships, her friend Vikram Bhatt many married, her phenomenal asking price, undeflated her ego, her problem and consequent patch with Akshay Kumar, all brought her more than her share of flak.
